Program:

This time NerdNite features free beers, octoberfest music and the following two awesome speakers:

Jens Dyvik: Making, Living, Sharing
Jens is a designer, specialized in global collaboration and local manufacturing. He works with emotional connections between people and products, and aims to create services and products that help make those connections meaningful.

He will talk about the outcomes of his two-year research world tour, where he worked at open collaborative workspaces in all corners of the world helping people to realise that they can create pieces themselves.
What would you make if you can make anything?
Parametric chairs? Grandma slippers? Do-it-yourself wooden assembly gifts? Jens makes all this and more:

Anders Hoff: Generative Algorithms and Design

Using code to mimic and visualize various natural (or unnatural) phenomena, like for example the growth of plants or roots. The algorithms are often based around a minimal set of local, simple and self-repeating rules designed such that each execution yields a unique and intricate result in the form of artistic images.

Intro to one or two of the algorithms + live demo. A little background information on the inspiration behind them will be also given.
